I cannot remember how many versions of this card I made, I think this is the 3rd! 🙂 Requested by a friend, I decided to up the cutesy factor in this and make it as girly as possible ~

百年好合

19 Oct

For those of you not familiar with the Chinese language, the 4 Chinese characters in the title roughly translates to “a hundred years of bliss”. This is a Chinese congratulatory phrase which is commonly used to wish newly married couples. This morning I received an email from a regular customer who needed a card for a wedding he is attending this Saturday. Hmm, I know someone else who is getting married this Saturday too.. is it an auspicious day? Anyway that meant I had to do a card today! His request was to make a very “Chinese” wedding card.

I remember making a wedding card with a similar theme before. Then, I had tried to make everything really Chinesey, and it ended up looking a tad too conservative. This time I thought I will use the same kind of traditional couple cut-out but incorporate more youthful elements like a poppish looking heart motif paper , a swiss-dot embossed cardstock and some girly looking lace. The words 百年好合 on yellow circles line the side of the card in a subtle fashion. On the matching red envelope, the traditional “double happiness” ribbon ties in with the traditional theme.

Card measures 6″x4″, is blank inside and comes with the red envelope.

White Wedding cake

30 Sep

A wedding card! I really love doing wedding cards because they usually involve very simple colors like white, pink or blue. A regular customer asked me for a wedding card for her good friend. She shared with me her initial idea: the concept that marriage is like cake, you need effort and a good mix of ingredients (love) to make one. Initially I tried to think along the lines of making a “recipe” card but it was hard to show ingredients becoming a cake and I had this feeling the end product would turn out cutesy and colorful instead of elegant and pure. Eventually, I decided to go the traditional way and make a wedding cake instead.

The flowers make up a white and silver palette, while the pearls complement the flowers by adding small accents along the way. I stuck every single piece of pearl embellishment using tweezers and glue! As a final touch, I linked the word “LOVE” to the string of pearls to subtly signify that love is an essential ingredient needed to make this wedding cake. Sweet!

Card measures 6″x4″, is blank inside and comes with a cream envelope.
